The Council

Copeland Borough Council is made up of 51 elected members.

The Council decides the overall policy framework and sets the budget for all services. The Council elects one of its members to be the Leader of the Council for a four year term.

The Leader of the Council appoints up to seven other members as Executive Members. The Executive are responsible for most day-to-day decisions affecting service delivery.

Meetings at which decisions are taken are open to the public unless personal or confidential matters are being discussed.
