Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)
In accordance with Planning Policy Statement 3: Housing (PPS3), the Council must be able to identify enough land suitable for housing development to cover the entire plan period of the emerging Local Development Framework (LDF), starting from the proposed adoption date.
The Council’s Local Development Scheme is currently being reviewed with a view to being completed October 2008. Following its completion, the Council will have a much clearer idea of the exact plan period of the LDF and as such, identify the ideal number of sites within the SHLAA. This will not however prevent initial work being carried out on the SHLAA.
The interim period until the adoption of the LDF will be covered by the five year supply identified in:
- Copeland’s Housing Land Position March 2008.
The SHLAA is a joint piece of work with Allerdale Borough Council and will attempt to establish a realistic and deliverable capacity for new housing within the main towns and villages of the borough in order to inform choices regarding housing location in both the Core Strategy and the Site Allocations documents.
We anticipate that the document will be ready in Spring 2009. It will be available for download below once completed. Please note that the SHLAA is simply an assessment of development capacity for housing. It does NOT allocate land for development. If a site is included within the SHLAA this does not guarantee that it will be carried forward into the adopted development plan. We are currently sending out a Call for Sites, to help us identify as much available, potential housing land as possible.
If you would like to submit a site for consideration, please use the form available to download below.
All sites MUST be accompanied by a location plan. Please ensure that you submit sites before the 15th September 2008.
