SPORT ACTION ZONE PROJECTS

ACTIVE LIVING FOR ALL - [link back to main Projects page]

This is a three-strand project, which aims to promote and increase the amont of physical activity accessed by socially excluded groups; increase the co-ordination of the development of sport; and ensure the community has a direct influence over the future planning of sport and physical activity in Barrow.

The work of the ALFA teams concentrates primarily on the six most deprived wards of Barrow: Central; Risedale; Hindpool; Barrow Island; Ormsgill; and Walney North.

The main partners of the programme are Morecambe Bay Primary Care Trust; Barrow Sports Development Team; Sport Action Zone; Age Concern and The Council for Voluntary Service

It has seen the appointment of three physical activity workers: A Young Men and Boys Activity Co-ordinator;
A Young Women and Girls Activity Co-ordinator; and an Older Adults Physical Activity Co-ordinator, working with those over 35 years old.
