Many primary and secondary schools throughout the zone are involved in the School Sport Coordinator programmes.

These aim to increase sports opportunities for more young people through coordinated PE, school sport and out of school activities that link with the local community, sport facilities and development programmes.

Activities in schools in the three Boroughs are coordinated by Partnership Development Managers Linda Borthwick for Allerdale; Anne Shuttleworth in Barrow; and Cayt Postlethwaite, in Copeland.

As well as increasing participation, the initiative aims to improve motivation and attitude; improve the standards of sports and physical activities available; and increase the number of officials in schools, clubs and facilities.
