Youngsters on the Orgill and Smithfield estates of Egremont have been taking full advantage of the drop-in centre and activities since its opening during the summer.

Swimming, horse-riding and bowling are among the physical activities being enjoyed by more than 140 young people who have joined the project.

A young mums group also now operates from the Dryden Way premises.

Such is the success of the Egremont project that other areas throughout West Cumbria are looking into setting up similar initiatives.

Essential to the success of the project is the support from Sport Action Zone; Groundwork Trust; Egremont Town Council; Copeland Borough Council; Westlakes Research Institute; Neighbourhood Forum and, importantly, the people of Egremont.
