SAZ -Main Aims
Training SAZ Community Workers

The West Cumbria and Barrow SAZ aims to:

 -  raise aspirations and empower local communities to participate on their terms - with quality sports and physical activity opportunities, locally determined, locally controlled and accessible to all.

 -  address issues surrounding deprivation, using sport as a catalyst in regenerating communities.

 -
take initiative to create an effective and sustainable sporting infrastructure, aiming towards equitable participation in sport and physical activity.

 -  promote the value of sport and physical activity to cross-boundary partners, influencing policy and strategy

Strategic Objectives
To achieve the aims set out in the Vision Statement the partners recognise that the approach must consider and encompass a commitment to the following objectives.

The short term objectives relate principally to the way in which the SAZ pathfinder will undertake consultation with local communities and improve cross-boundary working between existing Cumbrian partnership organisations and other established programmes.

The longer term objectives relate to the way in which SAZ will seek to influence policy, promote opportunity and improve sporting and physical activity opportunities within local communities.

Short-term Objectives

  • Liaise with established programme representatives and identify synergies and areas that overlap and integrate into the sporting and physical agenda.

  • Undergo targeted consultation with socially excluded groups and deprived areas within the local community to assess needs.
